Cosmic Egg

I've always said that I don't really have the guts to gamble on sports except football cause that's the sport that I know the most amongst others. And yes I don't endorse sports gambling or any form of gambling, just do it with moderation. So a friend texted me asking what I think about the Steelers @ Chiefs game. No brainer right? Struggling AFC West team against the reigning Super Bowl champion. Spread was 10 and this was like my first time saying that I'm pretty confident about picking the Steelers. And whaddayaknow. Steelers lost. Not just that, Bengals lost to the lowly Raiders too. Like WTF?! I guess I know shit. Don't gamble kids.
I finally got around to listening to the whole album of Cosmic Egg. I mean, it's good, it's definitely better than the normal rock act, and they definitely didn't pussy out after the breakup. But I dunno. I think it's just the little person in me that's still standing at the Warfield expecting the three piece band that keeps on rejecting them. It's like the album is missing a certain swagger than defined them in the previous album. I dunno. iJoe seemed to agree but then again we did watch that concert together. I dunno. Maybe a few more listen through will fix that feeling. Gotta move on, and there's no denying that the new album doesn't exactly suck.

Cal won! We thwarted their bid for the Rose Bowl! How awesome is that, doing it on their turf! Needless to say today was such a good day. I don't really care who goes to the Rose Bowl now as long as it's not Stanford nor USC, but I guess that 2 overtime thriller between Oregon and Arizona was something huh. But there's still Oregon State waiting at the door for Oregon, so next week should be good. And we could probably win against Washington next week so we can end up with a better record overall from Stanford. SUCK THAT GERHART.

Well here it is. The annual Big Game rant from some dude now 10k miles away from the Bay Area. And this is finally the year I've kinda looked forward too. Granted that I would've preferred that there wasn't so much in stake at this game, but there is still a chance that Stanford might actually make the fucking Rose Bowl, so if we indeed can blow this chance for him, oh I'm good. I'm good.
As we all know, Cal is probably the one school that chokes a shitlot. We just lost to Syracuse on NCAA bball, and guess what we were ranked 12 too, just like the preseason ranking of our football team. Again from my years as a Cal bleeder (since 2004), that first year was the only one where Cal truly a powerhouse, thanks to ARod, Arrington, and Marshawn. We lost only to fucking SC, ended up with #4 ranking in the nation, yet got snubbed from the Rose Bowl by the unstoppable the gloating and sycophantic Mack Brown of Texas. The years after that? Pretty much short of just a complete disappointment. The "only" bright spot was the co-Pac-10 champions with SC in 2006, but we didn't go to the Rose, SC did. So yeah, being a Cal fan for these years, disappointment and chokes come and go. It's not even funny no more when it's sort of something you can expect every year.
However being the underdog this year has its ups and downs too, such as beating Arizona at home last week, giving them a huge blow on their Rose hopes. But more than that is the feeling of revenge, cause they did kinda the same thing to us on the 2006 season (the tie season, if we had won we would've won Pac-10 straight up). Arizona did beat this year's Stanford, remember that, but it's fucking college football and it's the Pac-10, probably one of the most inconsistent conferences in college football today.
What about Stanford? Well they're the real underdog story of the year, probably just like Arizona. Started off unranked and now they still have Rose hopes given that Arizona beat Oregon this year. Again I have no qualms over conference rivals other than Stanford and SC, so if Oregon (my choice, all love for the Ducks anytime) or Arizona goes to Rose, I'm good. But Stanford... I guess Jim Harbaugh really did a fucking good job. Props to you, you Michigan backstabbing asshole.
So yeah this would be the first time that Stanford actually have the upper hand against us in 5 years. Yeah they did beat us 2 years ago but we were still the favorite, and I did see that loss coming. No problem, they deserve it. But this time it's the other way around. We're the underdog, and you know how I love being the underdog. We got a bowl game secured already, and Stanford will finally get a bowl game after we thwarted that last year too. But the Rose Bowl? Oh fuck you. You ain't getting that satisfaction. Yes there's still a chance, but I'd be praying my ass off for that not to happen.
Game's at Stanford so it should be harsh. But I envision a good game. I believe that the absence of Best actually fueled the team better, proven by that performance against Arizona. Spread is actually 8 in favor of Stanford. Wow. Didn't expect it to be that much, but the better to thwart them.
So FUCK YOU STANFORD. And heck at least this year USC really did fuck up, I'm already happy. But a win in 7 hours after this post go live, I'd still consider this one of the best seasons for my personal enjoyment.
GO BEARS.

And just like that, South Park season 13 is over
. Seriously is there a faster period of 7 weeks other than the South Park weeks?
The inevitable has indeed arrived. The UC Regents have approved the insane fee increase for all the UCs. I dunno dude, this might have been just what the state needs, but of course as an ex student (international / out of state nonetheless), news like this is indeed bonecrushing.
However, despite the gloom, stay tune tomorrow for my annual Cal Stanford pre Big Game post. This year Stanford is actually better than the always-disappointing-choker-extrordinaire-Cal, so it might get interesting.

First, the unimportant stuff. OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD just show who the mother is on HIMYM already! Enough with the distractions on new characters and shit! Barney and Robin splitting up is nice so the old Barney is back, but COME ON NOW. Enough already!
Second, the moving stuff. Holy crap, I just gotta give the writing team on House a huge thumbs up. The writing right now is spectacular. I'm sorry if this is a spoiler but the character of Cameron is being written out of the show, apparently not because the actress is quitting but because it's where the story's going to. Well apparently the news about it has been around since September I think, with official announcements by Fox, and even though I do read one TV show blog, I'm grateful that I didn't snoop around much and found out about this myself from times ahead cause that would've sucked. Devastated? I sure am, but her exit has gotta be one of the best scenes I've seen in House, ever. But you never know. In some interview she still says that technically she's still a series regular, which means that her name would probably still remain in the show's main opening. Kinda like when the original duckings left on the end of season 3? I dunno, I guess only the writers know about that. Yeah it sucks that my excitement on the original duckling's return lasted for only 7 episodes, but with the impeccable writing behind it, I'm pretty sure the series would still go on strong.
Man that would suck wouldn't it? To actually work in a job and you're doing well, not just okay, yet you don't really know whether you have any job security cause your job can just be "written off" at any time?
Oh and today I also finally realized that I watch House not for the final diagnosis anymore, at all. Usually in the past I try to kinda memorize what the symptoms are and what the solution was, as it's really interesting and makes a good story to tell, but nowadays it's usually not even explained that much to the layman amongst us so I just ignored it. Cause now the story's that good, buleeeeee dat!
